When Google Plus was first revealed, large numbers of photo geeks highly praised the social network for its immense 2,048 pixel resolution and no difficulty of use. One of the more negative complaints leveled at Facebook was the method it compressed photos, as a minimum until late last year. It was a long overdue upgrade, but along the way, Facebook earned a pitiable status as a space for photographers to share their work. That forthrightly makes this next move give the impression like a step backwards: The New York Times reports that Facebook will almost immediately be allowing users add their own Instagram-like filters to their photos. Google Plus added a new “ignore” feature to endow you further control of your privacy. Apparently, it’ll be for users you still want interacting with your content, but who you don’t desire to see popping up in your stream all the time. Facebook Places is being phased out, so you can disregard telling everyone that you were at the most paranormal place on Earth (Disneyland) or that you were busy purchasing plates at IKEA. Basically what’s happening is that the mobile check-in feature is getting exterminated, so you won’t be able to broadcast your location any longer – wait, truly?
